The Rebel Rescue Program is designed to help existing members of Cowork Frederick facing financial hardship as a result of an unexpected job or client loss, economic downturn, industry shift, or the like. The program covers the cost of an Unlimited Weekday membership at Cowork Frederick for up to three months, while keeping the participant immersed in a community of supportive, innovative freelancers and small business owners who can help them. The goal is to sustain the participant through the initial shock, help them find their footing, make plans, and emerge ready to take on their next big thing.
The program is funded primarily through the generous donations from Cowork Frederick members, and also by local businesses, organizations, and individuals who want to soften the blow of sudden changes and to help sustain a vital, but fragile, part of Frederick’s economy – our local freelancers and micro-business owners.
Participants must apply (see below) and be approved for the program. Applications are assessed based on need, whether the situation could have been anticipated and prepared for, and the likelihood that the participant will benefit from the program. This program is not meant to simply pay for a membership for several months when someone can’t afford it. It’s meant to help dig those in trouble out of a hole so they can move forward.
The participant in the program sets a specific goal (launch a new business, retool/prepare for a new job). A small team of accountability partners and mentors provides ongoing encouragement, coaching, and, as needed, some “tough love”. Plans are established and progress is checked. The expectation is that the participant will actively work toward their goal and emerge stronger and better positioned to move forward on their own. In return, the participant will act as a mentor and accountability partner for someone else in need of a rescue in the future.
