Why It Matters

Healthy, Resilient, Agile Local Economy

A healthy economy thrives on diversity, adaptability, and innovation. Freelancers and micro-businesses (companies with fewer than 10 employees) serve as the bedrock of economic resilience by acting as shock absorbers, innovation labs, and drivers of competitive markets. A modern economy needs a significant number of them to stay healthy, which is why the Cowork Frederick Foundation does its part to support them. More on that here.

Combating a Loneliness Epidemic

In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General declared an epidemic of loneliness – one that impacts individuals’ health, happiness, and prosperity, as well as our society as a whole. People spend far too much time in isolation. Screentime with others offers little comfort. It’s just not the same. We are social creatures by nature, not just in play but also in work. New ideas spark from conversations. Feedback is given. Encouragement is available when things are hard – maybe as a hug. Successes are cheered. We feel motivated when around others. That’s why the Cowork Frederick Foundation hosts social events like “Business & Brews” and other in-person learning events like “Brain Boost”.
